PARINEE BUTHRASRI

Parinee Buthrasri is a cinematographer based in Thailand and Czech Republic. She recently won awards for Best Cinematography at the 2021 Calcutta International Short Film Festival, India and 2021 FICBUEU International Short Film Festival, Spain with her short film ‘Lemongrass Girl’.

Graduated MA in cinematography at Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague, Czech Republic. Currently, Parinee works across Asia and Europe, where she brings a unique sensibility and heightened the feminine gaze to her works. Her works mostly blur the boundaries between documentary and fiction, bringing in to play with many formats across the cinematic possibilities. Her interests are often stories that have leading female character and queer genre. Parinee’s works have been premiered in numerous acclaimed film festivals including Locarno Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam and Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur and Berlin International Film Festival. Besides narrative films, she often collaborates with many acclaimed artists including  Anocha Suwichakornpong, Tulapop Saenjaroen, Leila Hekmat, Enoch Cheng and Marlies Poe. 

Parinee is an alumna of camera studio at the Berlinale Talents 2022 and CHANEL X BIFF Asian Film Academy 2022, where she received CHANEL X BAFA Promising Filmmaker Award. She is also a member of Rapid Eye Movement (REM) which is a film and experiment media series of screening programmes, organised by a collective of artists and filmmakers in Bangkok.
